Passport validity won't be affected by Her Majesty's passing

TV3 Newshub New Zealand - 6 PM  Bulletin  |  9 September, 2022  |  Alexa Cook
Kyle Lockwood, 10-Year passports campaigner was interviewed by Channel 3's Newshub after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, as there was concern that passport validity may be affected due to NZ passports being issued in the name of Her Majesty, Lockwood commented that passport validity will not be affected.

Holding up his grandfathers passport issued in 1949, Lockwood said, "there is a past-precident, this passport was issued under His Britannic Majesty King George the Sixth, and this passport was still valid in 1954, 2 years after Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne."  See More

Kyle Lockwood is one of the newest recruits to hold one of the world’s oldest justice roles.

The Cobblebank resident was recently sworn in as a Justice of the Peace, a volunteer position serving a valuable role in everyday legal matters.

Mr Lockwood said he was drawn to the role due to a family link as well as a local shortfall in numbers. “I just wanted to help out the community and there’s also been quite a shortage of JPs for the last five years or so,” he said.   See More

Few can say they have changed a national law, but that's exactly what Kyle Lockwood and his team of campaigners did in 2015.

In November 2005, the Government reduced the validity of the New Zealand passport issued to those aged 16+ from ten years to five, the move was unpopular with the travelling public. Kyle Lockwood led a successful campaign to reinstate ten-year passports by lobbing Parliamentary Select Committee and Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet to make a positive change to Government legislation benefiting all New Zealand citizens aged 16 and over.  See more

Kyle Lockwood successfully campaigns for 18+ (now Kiwi Access) card in 1999

Prior to 1999, New Zealanders could not enter a bar or purchase alcohol if they were under 20 (or under 18 if accompanied by a parent) Driver licences did not have a photograph, and in practice young kiwis who appeared under 25 were faced with a ridiculous situation where they could only obtain entry to a bar with a New Zealand Passport, which is normally used to gain entry to another country, not a bar! See More
